Fredericksburg Farmers Market 3

We spent Hub’s birthday weekend in Fredericksburg, Texas. We just adore the Texas hill country and feel very at home there since meeting so many wonderful friends. The weather in November is picture perfect, sunny and 80 degree temps. But, the highlight of this particular trip to Fredericksburg was the meeting of a very special new friend, Kelly S. and her husband Steve and their two lovely daughters. You see ~ once again the Airstream community linked Kelly and me together via the AirForums. We’ve been chatting for months and she told me the next time we’re in the hill country, we’ll be getting together. And together we got!!! Kelly not only advised us of the best “eats” in town, she gave us an incredible tour of town and RV parks, gave us a tour of her Airstream and T@DA and invited us to an incredible and super fun breakfast at Doss Country Store.  Our sincerest thanks again Kelly and Steve ~ we had an amazing time with you and your family.  Kelly also told us to join her at the Fredericksburg Farmers Market. Kelly started this fabulous market over 5 years ago and it’s been thriving ever since. We enjoyed a beautiful Thursday afternoon at the market!!

The farmers market mission statement: “I  believe it is important to think and act locally. By this I mean, whenever possible buy locally grown and produced foods for your table. When you support your independent, local farms, you not only help our environment, but the planet as a whole. Reducing transportation emissions and excess packaging makes a difference for the environment and our bodies. More importantly, nothing taste quite as good as something picked and prepared fresh the same day.”

You could feel the sense of “community” at the market. Friends and visitors gather each Thursday from 4 – 7 pm from May till mid-November. Meet new friends, have a taste of the dish of the week provided by local farmers, sip on local wine, eat the most amazing pizza from the chef of Navajo Grill and enjoy the music and scenery at the Pioneer Museum.

“The Fredericksburg Farmers Market (FFM) is a seven-month long, weekly event that brings locally grown food to the community. FFM is a producer/grower market consisting of farmers, ranches and wineries located within the geographic neighborhood of Gillespie and adjacent counties. FFM has been operating for four years in the Marktplatz, the center of Fredericksburg. In 2011, in partnership with the Pioneer Museum, we expanded to include a two-month fall market on Pioneer’s grounds to bring fall produce to the community and to emphasize the historical importance of agriculture to the local economy. We are growing and now have some 21 vendors that participate in the FFM. FFM is maintained by a group of volunteers whose goal is to bring good local food to the community, help our local farmers, ranchers and wineries sell product, and further promote Fredericksburg as a culinary arts center.”
