Seaside Airstreams 4

I have never been to Seaside, Florida but, it’s a destination that is on my mind. Several of my fellow Airstreamers have recently visited this beautiful seaside paradise. An instant attraction for me are all of the Airstream food trucks. One of my Air Forums friends, shared his photos with me of his recent trip to Seaside with his wife, Bichon Frise and their Airstream.

A bit of Seaside history thanks to the Seaside official website:

The Dream of a Simple, Beautiful Life

You know Seaside now. The pastel houses. The picket fences. The families riding to the ice cream shop, bike following bike following bike.

It seems impossible to imagine, but long before what you see today, Seaside was just a dream. A dream that started with one man.

J.S. Smolian had always had an intense connection to this part of the Gulf Coast. The sugar white sand. The turquoise blue water. He loved the way this place pulled his family together. The magical way it synced them. He loved watching his grandchildren become brilliant beach castle architects. He loved watching his children become themselves again.

The well-deep connection was so strong that in 1946, he bought 80 of its acres. Undeveloped land dense with live oaks and scrubby brush, barely navigable but for a couple of dirt paths.

J.S. had a vision for the acres. A dream, really. He had peered into that untamed territory and recognized a certain grace. An elegance. His plan was a summer camp. A destination he could share. The plan never materialized, however. The land rested.

Until 1978, when J.S. deeded the 80 acres to his grandson, Robert Davis.

Robert knew the connection. He had felt the same magic J.S had. His memories of gulf beach summer nights spent here on wide porches were as indelible as the sound of the waves or the sea breezes drying his arms after a swim. They were idyllic. Simple.

Robert shared his grandfather’s dream. This could only be a place to share.

He made his own plan. A town seamlessly tied by a common sense of community.

In 1981, Seaside was born.

Over 30 years after J.S. first acted on his dream, Robert realized his own.

It was the dream we all have for life itself. Simple. Beautiful. Graceful. Elegant.

30 years later, the Seaside dream continues.

“When I closed my eyes and let my mind wander, I could almost feel the sea breezes evaporating the moisture on my skin. I could recall the special pleasure of relaxing on a porch rocker after a shower at the end of the day on the beach.” –Robert Davis reminiscing on his summer family vacations on the Gulf Coast.

Guest Post ~ Yellowstone Under Canvas Reply

Glamping is a way of life, it’s an attitude! Glamping is defined as “Glamorous camping. Satisfying your craving for the outdoors and your penchant for a good meal, nice glass of wine, and a comfortable bed”.  You can glamp in an Airstream or you can glamp in a luxurious safari tent while feeling like you have just stepped onto the movie set of “Out of Africa”! Welcome Yellowstone Under Canvas, an uber glamorous glamping experience! Imagine the serenity and overall peace while sleeping under the stars in West Yellowstone. Dine in the Bar N Restaurant, raft the Gallatin River or try your hand at fly fishing in the Yellowstone River. Bonus, you can park your Airstream on property while Glamping in one of Yellowstone Under Canvas’ cozy tents or tipi’s. I have just added Yellowstone Under Canvas to my bucket list, for sure!!!

“There’s something unique about life under canvas. Under a canvas canopy, space is light and open. The barrier between interior and exterior feels less definitive. As a result, the possibilities to arrange the space become as infinite as the landscape backdrop. With the Under Canvas experience, glamorous tipis and safari tents can fit seamlessly into the scenery or stand as a tent village, striking against the sky.

Sage Safaris was started by a husband and wife team and now includes two branches: the Yellowstone Under Canvas luxury camp on the edge of Yellowstone National Park, and Under Canvas Events which brings the glamping experience to weddings, corporate retreats and festivals all around the US and in some parts of Canada.

On the Under Canvas Events side of things, weekend glamping weddings are a rising trend. Especially in destination locales like here in Southwest Montana, (and I’ve heard, coastal California and the Pacific Northwest), brides and grooms are crafting weddings that double as a weekend vacation for their guests. What’s the best way to keep the party going and allow your guests to thoroughly experience a fishing, hiking, outdoor mecca where your event is located? Host your guests right on site, glamping in shelters that are luxurious and connect party goers with the great expanse of landscape around them. Our tents have been used for accommodations, lounge spaces or large gathering areas – topped off with the indulgences of atmospheric central fires, wood stoves, rolltop baths, and hot water showers. You won’t find luxury tents like ours anywhere in the U.S.

The Yellowstone Under Canvas luxury camp in Yellowstone is one possible glamping experience we can bring to your own event. The luxury camp is located 10 min from the western entrance of Yellowstone National Park, and about 35 min from Old Faithful geyser. And, yes! you are welcome to park your RV or airstream in the parking lot as you rejuvenate your road weary self with some decadent safari tent or tipi glamping.

Made up of 35 tents, Yellowstone Under Canvas can accommodate about 130 people at one time. We share the site with the Bar ‘N Ranch restaurant that offers fine dining for breakfast and dinner. Guests can then special order picnic lunches or a sundowners, drinks and appetizers alongside the river, from us or find lunch in nearby W Yellowstone. We offer honeymoon and active family packages and can help you book activities including national park, guided hiking, horseback riding, fly-fishing or ATV tours. Kayaks and stand up paddle boards can now be rented at camp. Imagine stepping from the door of your tent right onto the river. Our team is here to help you organize the most memorable vacation with all the highlights of the Yellowstone region.

Our tipis and deluxe safari tents complete the glamping experience. Tipi bathrooms are a decadent experience in themselves with all the amenities mentioned above, plus ceramic flush toilets and spa products. If you have kids, tipis that sleep 4 can always be added adjacent to your safari tent.

Brand new this summer we will have 3 Deluxe Suites. This means: soaking in a rolltop bath on the edge of Yellowstone National Park, with an internal bathroom, wood stove, lounge area and bedroom all connected in a secluded location. You could come to the National Park and stay in a hotel, but would be missing half the experience. Yellowstone Under Canvas offers all the amenities and services of a hotel, with a much lower environmental impact and a unique community feel. Nightly campfires offer guests an opportunity to tell stories of their day and connect with each other and our staff. This summer we will add a unique tipi marquee space, available to be rented out by groups for reunions, corporate retreats and such.

This is a new style of luxury accommodation. The wildlife and places that you’ll encounter in the Yellowstone region are remarkable, and there is something special about the space created by canvas –you just have to feel it. At Yellowstone Under Canvas you feel connected to the majesty outdoors. It’s almost a juxtaposition. Who would have envisioned such luxury in one of the most gorgeous expanses of National Park and wild west backcountry.

We are now taking Yellowstone Under Canvas reservations for 2013, as well as wedding and event bookings for Under Canvas Events. Please do not hesitate to visit our websites: and or call us at 406.219.0441 for more information. We look forward to helping you organize your Yellowstone travels or bringing the Under Canvas glamping experience to your next event!”

Colorado RV Adventure Travel Show 6

Exactly one year ago this past Saturday, it all started. Hub’s and I always had a dream to travel the country in an RV with our best “fur” friend, Milo (RIP). We talked about it for years and of course, life treks on and sometimes your dreams get put on the back burner. But, it was different that particular day. We attended the Colorado RV show and have never looked back. That was a life changing day. The kind of day where you feel you are at a cross roads. We decided to take the road that lead us to our Beatrice! We toured the show for about 4 hours. It was pretty exciting touring the various styles RV’s from Motorcoaches to Travel Trailers and all the SOB’s (some other brands) in between. Looks like the 5th Wheels and Toy Haulers are the main attractions.

Finally we were about done and ready to go home and as we were walking out of the show we spotted the aluminum peanuts, the Airstream Travel Trailers. We walked into a 27’FB International Serenity and that was it. It hit us like a ton of bricks. It was my Oprah “Ah Ha” moment. The moment that I had been waiting for ~ we were “HOME”!!!! So, that is how it all began. One year ago this past weekend and the rest is history. Months of research, blogging, joining the AirForums, meeting folks at the local DenCO Unit and attending rallies all aided us in our decision to finally purchase our Beatrice last October. Move ahead to this past weekend and we had to attend the RV show again. I feel like it’s our anniversary, a must-attend event each year now. Since we were not in the market for an RV this year, it was more for fun and to see if there were new products out there that we hadn’t discovered yet. Below are some of the highlights of the show and of course, the Airstreams that Windish RV had on display. The show had just about any RV you could imagine from this tiny camper…

RV_DSC8018 RV_DSC8014 RV_DSC7991

To the big boys….

I enjoyed meeting Amanda Mullins from Grass Haven Outdoor. Grass Haven is a brand new company out of Boulder, CO offering lots of fun items to outfit your rig for some fun summertime activities plus recipes, tips and tricks, camping etiquette, camping attire and so much more. Worth checking out for sure! “Grasshaven Outdoor. The name pretty much says it all—a heavenly haven where the comforts of home meet the beauty of nature.”

RV_DSC7869 RV_DSC7871 RV_DSC7874 RV_DSC7877

We stopped by the booth of Camp Here Gear! This is a brand new company based out of Loveland, Colorado offering fun RV camping designs on everything from T Shirts to Aprons to Stickers. He promised me they would come up with an Airsteam design soon!

RV_DSC7885 RV_DSC7887

One of the nicest, most spacious Class B Plus RV’s we saw is this 2013, Unity by Leisure Travel Vans. Ron Griffith of Intermountain Coach showed us this Murphy Bed style coach and it was very impressive. It was extremely spacious, the hardwoods were top-notch, corian counter tops, one slide-out and the most perfect bathroom set up. If you have been looking for a Class B look no further than this Mercedes van. It’s a 10 in my book!!

RV_DSC8010 RV_DSC8008 RV_DSC8003 RV_DSC7999 RV_DSC7998 RV_DSC7995

Dura-Tent offers a nifty product to help keep your food “bug and bee free”. Larger and more user-friendly than the typical food nets that only cover one dish. Dura-Tent will cover a buffet size table or the smaller version will cover enough dishes for a couple campers. And it folds up into a tiny package for storing.

Even Jeep had a cute little camper while Ford showed off an embellished model truck…

The Hitch Corner attended our local DenCO Unit luncheon last weekend. They also had a booth at the RV show. The Hitch Corner provides hitches, hitch accessories, bikes/cargo racks, RV and camping equipment and so much more.

And last but, certainly not least ~ the Airstreams!!! Windish RV had a nice selection of Airstream models from a 16′ to a 27’FB. If interested in any RV from Windish please consider contacting Zach Shaw at 800-748-3778  or Zach will take very good care of you!! And for excellent service/repair in the Colorado region, contact Dave Baldini at
